KIDS IN SCHOOL

These drawings are based on found photographs that I found on the roadside in Tokyo suburb late 90’s.

"Found" itself is not my main focus of this work. Rather, I was interested in the situation. All the pictures seemed like taken by teachers during the school activity.

In my childhood memory, the school was not the most joyful part. I have never felt I was fitting in the classroom. “Harmony” is very important in school life in Japan.

And after all, I think it is the preparation to be part of the company, part of the society, that not making noise, not thinking, not having own point of view.

Drawing the school activity is my revisit to my childhood ambivalent feeling.
